Andrew Tate is a devoted advocate ardently driven by a creed espoused by Frederick Douglass, the American abolitionist and human rights activist: “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” Andrew aggressively litigates cases across a broad spectrum of employment matters, including discrimination on the basis of race, sex/LGBTQIA+, disability, age, religion, and national origin; unlawful denial of retirement benefits; contract disputes; workplace torts, such as sexual battery, fraud, defamation, invasion of privacy, and negligent hiring and retention; and retaliation, including violations of whistleblower protection laws. Andrew also regularly advises clients on restrictive covenants in employment contracts and negotiates severance packages.

In 2021, Andrew was selected by the National Trial Lawyers as a “Top 40 under 40” for plaintiff practice in Georgia, and in his first trial, Andrew was honored for achieving one of the Top 100 Medical Malpractice verdicts in the United States in 2019. Andrew is a member of the Georgia State Bar and admitted to practice in the federal district courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia.

A native Atlantan, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from Emory University, and attended Holy Innocents Episcopal School, where he performed in numerous plays. At Emory Law, he competed on the school’s ABA Negotiation Team, served on the Student Bar Association, and interned for the late Chief Justice P. Harris Hines of the Supreme Court of Georgia.

Before joining Buckley Beal, Andrew litigated cases involving excessive use of force, unreasonable search and seizure, cruel and unusual punishment, due process violations, and medical malpractice in correctional settings, as well as cases that successfully fought the Trump Administration’s family separation practices at the U.S.-Mexico border, reuniting numerous families as a result. In his first jury trial, Andrew was first chair and achieved a verdict of $1.3 million for his client, one of the highest verdicts ever awarded to a living plaintiff who was injured in a correctional setting in the United States. Prior to this verdict, the first chair opposing counsel had tried over 130 cases and never lost a case in federal court.

Andrew is active in numerous civic activities across Atlanta, volunteers to assist underrepresented individuals in need through the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, and advocates for bipartisan legislation to get money out of politics, stop climate change, require transparency, accountability, and oversight on Wall Street, and enhance protections for employees, journalists, consumers, and whistleblowers. When he is not working, Andrew is creating memories with his wife and two young children, hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, and proudly cooking barbeque on his Lang offset smoker.
